Alert Sounds:
Clixsounds recommends using this alert sound with our "YO!" Alert Sound Randomizer product, which allows you to have up to 1,000 sounds installed at once to be randomly played as your beep. More information is available on this product in this document, or you can access information on-line, as well as download a copy of YO!, by going to

If you are not using YO!, to use a sound as your Alert sound, it must be placed in your "System File." This file is located in your System Folder and looks like a "suit case."
To install a sound there, first quit all applications. Next, drag the sound file to your closed System Folder.
You will then be prompted by a dialog box that will ask if you wish to place it in your System. Allow it to be installed.
Finally, go to your "Sound" or "Monitors & Sound" control panel and select this sound as your new System Alert.
StartUp Sounds:
To use the sound as your System StartUp Sound, first locate your "StartUp Items" folder, which is located in your System Folder.
Next, take the sound file and drag it to the "StartUp Items" folder.
Close all folders and restart. The sound will play after your extensions have loaded.
ShutDown Sounds:
To use the sound as your System ShutDown Sound, first locate your "ShutDown Items" folder, which is located in your System Folder.
Next, take the sound file and drag it to the "ShutDown Items" folder.
Close all folders and restart. The sound will play just before your computer reboots or shuts off.
System Clock Sounds:
To use your new System Clock Sounds sounds, first make sure that you do not have any applications running. Only the Finder should be visible in your Finder menu.
5 sounds have been provided for you. One for each: Top of the Hour, 1/4 Past, 1/2 Past, 1/4 'Til, and Chime. You first need to decide whether you wish for your Mac to chime at the top of the hour the same number of times of the hour, or for it to simply tell you it is the top of the hour. You will either use "Top of the Hour" to be told it is the top of the hour, or choose "Chime" for it to chime the number of the time.
Next, drag the 1/4 Past, 1/2 Past, 1/4'Til sounds, along with whichever you chose between "Top of the Hour" and "Chime," onto your System Folder. Make sure you drag it onto the actual folder while it is closed, not while it is open. A box will appear asking you if you wish to move the files into your system. Click on "OK." It will move the sounds to your System.
Next, open your "Date and Time" control panel. Click on "Clock Options" in the lower left-hand corner of the window. On the right side of the window that appears, click on the "Chime on the Hour" button so that it is an X on it. If you chose to use the sound that chimes the number of times of the hour, select "...same number of times as the current hour." If you chose the simple "Top of the Hour" sound, make sure it is not checked.
Next, go to the pop-up menu next to the clock icon that indicates the Top of the Hour. Select either "Top of the Hour" or "Chime," depending upon which you chose earlier. Next, go to the icon for 1/4 past and select "1/4 Past" through that pop-up menu. Repeat for the last two, selecting the appropriate sounds.
When you have done this, you can close your control panel and enjoy your new System Clock Sounds!

Preparing The Sound
To use a sound as your Email Sound, it must be placed in your "System File." This file is located in your System Folder and looks like a "suit case."
To install a sound there, first quit all applications. Next, drag the sound file to your closed System Folder.
You will then be prompted by a dialog box that will ask if you wish to place it in your System. Allow it to be installed.
Configuring Claris Emailer
Once you have placed the sound into your System File, launch Emailer. Under the "SetUp" menu, select "Preferences."
In the "Mail Handling" tab (the first one that appears), click on the "Play Sound" button and make sure there is an "X" in the check box.
Finally, select the email sound through the popup menu.
Configuring Eudora
Once you have placed the sound into your System File, launch Eudora.
Under the "Special" menu, select "Settings..." In the scroll window, scroll to "Getting Attention" and click it. Click on the button next to "Play A Sound" so that there is a check mark.
